Keith Richards was born on December 18, 1943, in Dartford, Kent, England. He is the only child of Doris Maud Lydia and Herbert William Richards, a factory worker who served in World War II. His musical journey began early, inspired by his maternal grandfather, Augustus Theodore "Gus" Dupree, a jazz musician who gifted him his first guitar. Richards's determination to play led him to devise clever ways to reach the instrument, which he eventually mastered with his grandfather's guidance.
