Khaled Hadj Ibrahim, known simply as Khaled, was born on February 29, 1960, in the Eckmühl neighborhood of Oran, Algeria. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he was exposed to various musical influences that would shape his future career. He began recording music in his early teens under the name Cheb Khaled, a title that means "young man" in Arabic, which would later become synonymous with his identity as a raï artist.

Career

Khaled's rise to fame was significantly influenced by Lieutenant-Colonel Hosni Snoussi, who recognized his talent and invited him to perform at the state-sponsored Festival de la Jeunesse pour la Fête Nationale in Algiers in 1985. This performance marked the beginning of his ascent in the music world, culminating in him being crowned the king of raï at the first official festival of raï in Oran that same year. His career took a pivotal turn when he recorded the album "Kutché" in 1988, which expanded his reputation in France, where he eventually settled. In 1992, he released the self-titled album "Khaled," featuring the hit single "Didi," which catapulted him to international stardom.

Personal Life

Khaled married Samira Diabi in France on January 12, 1995, and they have four daughters and one son together. His personal life has seen its share of challenges, including a domestic violence complaint filed by his wife in 1997, which she later retracted. Khaled has also faced legal issues regarding an illegitimate son, leading to a suspended prison sentence in 2001. In 2008, he moved to Luxembourg, reportedly motivated by these legal troubles. Despite these challenges, he has continued to thrive in his music career, earning numerous accolades and recognition.

Khaled is celebrated as the first Arab singer to win a World Music Award and holds the Guinness World Record for the best-selling artist of raï music.
