Early Life

Gustav Elijah Åhr, known professionally as Lil Peep, was born on November 1, 1996, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was the second child of Liza Womack, a first-grade teacher, and had one sibling, Karl "Oskar" Åhr. His family moved to Long Beach, New York, when he was just a child. Lil Peep's heritage included Swedish roots from his father, which granted him Swedish citizenship at birth. His maternal grandfather was a Harvard professor, indicating a strong academic background in his family.

Career

Lil Peep began his music career in February 2016 after relocating to Los Angeles, where he adopted the stage name Lil Peep. Initially living in Skid Row and facing homelessness, he formed the collective Schemaposse and released his first EP, "Feelz," in 2015. His mixtape, "Lil Peep; Part One," gained significant traction, leading to his breakout with songs like "Star Shopping" and "Beamer Boy." He was recognized as a leading figure in the emo rap genre, blending elements of hip hop with rock influences, and was often compared to Kurt Cobain for his melancholic style.

Personal Life

Lil Peep was open about his struggles with mental health, including depression and bipolar disorder, and he came out as bisexual in 2017. His relationships included a brief romance with actress Bella Thorne and a later relationship with influencer Arzaylea Rodriguez. Tragically, Lil Peep's life was cut short when he passed away on November 15, 2017, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence the emo rap genre and alternative youth culture.
