Marie Laforêt

Early Life

Marie Laforêt was born on October 5, 1939, in Soulac-sur-Mer, France, to Jean Doumenach and Marie-Louise Saint Guily. Her family faced challenges during World War II, with her father being a prisoner of war in Germany. After the war, they moved to Paris, where Laforêt developed an interest in the dramatic arts, which she found therapeutic.

Career

Laforêt's career began unexpectedly in 1959 when she won a French radio talent contest, leading to her first film role in "Plein Soleil" (1960) alongside Alain Delon. She quickly became a prominent figure in the French pop scene, known for her poetic and mature songs that diverged from the typical yé-yé style of the time. Her musical journey included hits like "Les Vendanges de l'Amour" (1963) and "Manchester Et Liverpool" (1966), showcasing her unique blend of folk influences. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she released several albums, including "La cantante dagli occhi d’oro" and "Viens sur la montagne."

Personal Life

Laforêt's personal life was marked by several marriages and relationships. She married director Jean-Gabriel Albicoco in 1961, but they divorced two years later. She had two children, Élise and Jean-Mehdi, with her partner Judas Azuelos. After a brief marriage to Alain Kahn-Sriber, she moved to Switzerland and married Swiss doctor Pierre Meyer in 1981. Her final marriage was to stockbroker Eric de Lavandeyra, which ended in a contentious divorce in 1992. Laforêt's life was a tapestry of artistic achievement and personal challenges, reflecting her resilience and passion for music.
