Early Life

Brian Hugh Warner, known professionally as Marilyn Manson, was born on January 5, 1969, in Canton, Ohio. He was raised in a religious household, with his mother being an Episcopalian and his father a Catholic. Manson attended Heritage Christian School, where his teachers attempted to steer him away from certain music, inadvertently igniting his passion for it. He later graduated from GlenOak High School in 1987 and pursued a degree in journalism at Broward Community College, where he began writing for a music magazine and interviewing musicians, including Trent Reznor, who would later become his mentor.

Career

Manson formed his band in 1989 with guitarist Scott Putesky, initially performing as Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids. The group gained notoriety for their provocative performances, which included shocking imagery and theatrical elements. They signed with Nothing Records in 1993, leading to the release of their debut album, "Portrait of an American Family," in 1994. Manson's unique vocal style, characterized by a range of techniques from melodic singing to growling, has contributed to his distinctive sound across various genres, including rock, industrial metal, and shock rock.

Beyond music, Manson has engaged in philanthropy, supporting causes such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and organizations that aid victims of abuse.
