Formation

Mumford & Sons is a British folk rock band formed in December 2007 in Greater London. The original lineup consisted of Marcus Mumford, Ted Dwane, Ben Lovett, and Winston Marshall. The band quickly gained recognition for their unique sound, which blends traditional folk instruments like the banjo and mandolin with a modern rock sensibility. The name "Mumford & Sons" was inspired by Marcus Mumford's prominent role in the band, evoking the feel of an antiquated family business.

Breakthrough

The band rose to fame with their debut album, "Sigh No More," which was released in 2009 and featured the hit single of the same name, drawing lyrical inspiration from Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing." Their follow-up album, "Babel," released in 2012, solidified their status in the music industry, earning them a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Over the years, Mumford & Sons continued to evolve their sound, incorporating elements of rock and country music, as seen in their later albums like "Wilder Mind" and "Delta."
