Napalm Death, a pioneering grindcore band, was formed in May 1981 in Meriden, West Midlands, England, by Nic Bullen and Miles Ratledge. Initially inspired by the anarcho-punk movement, the band went through several name changes before settling on Napalm Death. The first stable lineup included Bullen on bass and vocals, Ratledge on drums, and Simon Oppenheimer on guitar.
