Formation
No Doubt is an American rock band formed in December 1986 in Anaheim, California. The band was initially created by Eric Stefani and John Spence, who met at a Dairy Queen and decided to gather musicians to play music. The original lineup included Eric on keyboards, Gwen Stefani (his sister) on backing vocals, and John Spence as the lead vocalist, along with several other musicians. After a series of lineup changes, Tony Kanal joined as the bassist in 1987, and he soon began a romantic relationship with Gwen, which they kept secret for a year.
Breakthrough
The band faced a tragic setback in December 1987 when lead vocalist John Spence died by suicide. After a brief disbandment, No Doubt regrouped with Alan Meade taking over vocals. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1992, followed by "The Beacon Street Collection" in 1995, which showcased their ska punk roots.
