Early Life

Paul Gardner Allen was born on January 21, 1953, in Seattle, Washington, to Kenneth Sam Allen, a librarian, and Edna Faye Allen, a fourth-grade teacher. He attended Lakeside School from 1965 to 1971, where he developed a passion for computers and formed a lifelong friendship with Bill Gates. Together, they explored programming and even created a traffic counter business called Traf-O-Data. Allen achieved a perfect SAT score and briefly attended Washington State University before dropping out to work as a programmer for Honeywell.

Career

In 1975, Allen co-founded Microsoft with Gates, which played a pivotal role in the microcomputer revolution. His contributions to the tech industry made him one of the wealthiest individuals in American history, with a net worth of $20.3 billion at the time of his death in 2018. Beyond technology, Allen was also passionate about music; he received his first electric guitar at sixteen and played in various projects, including the album "Everywhere at Once" with his band, the Underthinkers, released in 2013.

Throughout his life, Allen was a dedicated philanthropist, donating over $2 billion to various causes, including science, technology, and the arts.
