Pendulum

Formation

Pendulum is an Australian drum and bass band formed in 2002 in Perth, Western Australia, by Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen, and Paul "El Hornet" Harding. Initially a trio of DJs, they began their journey in the local music scene, with Swire and McGrillen having backgrounds in rock and metal bands, while Harding was a drummer in a punk band. Their first track, "Vault," released in 2003, gained traction in the UK, prompting the band to relocate to London the same year.

Breakthrough

The band's debut album, "Hold Your Colour," was released in 2005 under Breakbeat Kaos and achieved significant success, charting in both the UK and Australia and earning a gold certification in Australia. Following this, they released a compilation album, "Jungle Sound Gold," which further solidified their presence in the electronic music scene. Over the years, Pendulum expanded their lineup to include Ben Verse, Peredur ap Gwynedd, and KJ Sawka, contributing to their evolving sound that blends electronic music with hard rock.

Evolution and Influence

Pendulum's musical style has evolved from their early, darker drum and bass roots to a more mainstream, dance-driven sound. They are known for their energetic live performances and have produced notable remixes of tracks by artists like The Prodigy and Led Zeppelin. Their influence extends across genres, making them a significant force in the electronic rock and drum and bass scenes. The band continues to perform and create music, maintaining their status as pioneers in the genre.
