Early Life

Sara Beth Bareilles was born on December 7, 1979, in Eureka, California. Growing up in a family with diverse cultural backgrounds, she is the youngest of four sisters. Her father, Paul, worked as an insurance adjuster, while her mother, Bonnie, was employed at a funeral home. Bareilles was raised in a Catholic household and attended parochial school until junior high, later transferring to public school. She developed a passion for music early on, participating in her high school choir and local theater productions, including a notable role in "Little Shop of Horrors" as Audrey. After graduating from Eureka High School in 1998, she pursued communication studies at UCLA, where she was part of a co-ed a cappella group.

Career

Bareilles began her music career shortly after graduating from UCLA in 2002, performing at local venues and releasing her first studio album, "Careful Confessions," in 2004. Her breakthrough came in 2007 with the hit single "Love Song," which was featured as iTunes' free single of the week. This success led to her album "Little Voice," which showcased her strong mezzo-soprano vocal range and songwriting skills. Over the years, she has released several acclaimed albums, including "Kaleidoscope Heart," "The Blessed Unrest," and the soundtrack for the musical "Waitress," which she also contributed to as a songwriter. Bareilles has received numerous accolades, including two Grammy Awards and nominations for Emmy and Tony Awards.

Personal Life

Sara Bareilles has been open about her personal life, including her relationships. She was previously in a long-term relationship with guitarist Javier Dunn until 2013. In 2015, she met actor Joe Tippett during a production of "Waitress," and they became engaged on New Year's Day in 2023. Bareilles is a vocal advocate for feminism and LGBTQ+ rights, often expressing her views through her music and public appearances. She currently resides in West Village, Manhattan, New York City, where she continues to create and perform music.
