Sarah Hyland

Early Life

Sarah Jane Hyland was born on November 24, 1990, in the East Village of Lower Manhattan, New York City. She is the daughter of actors Melissa Canaday and Edward James Hyland, and has a brother, Ian Hyland, who is also in the acting profession. Growing up in a family of performers, Sarah attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan, which helped nurture her talent from a young age.

Career

Hyland's career began at the tender age of seven when she landed her first role as Howard Stern's daughter in the film "Private Parts" (1997). She gained further recognition for her role as Molly in the 1999 television film of "Annie" and later appeared in NBC's "Lipstick Jungle". However, she is best known for her portrayal of Haley Dunphy on the ABC sitcom "Modern Family" from 2009 to 2020, a role that earned her a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination. Beyond acting, Hyland has showcased her musical talents in various projects, including performances in "Kerrigan-Lowdermilk Live" and the Hollywood Bowl adaptation of "Hair". She has also co-hosted the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, where she performed alongside other stars.

Personal Life

Hyland's personal life has been marked by both challenges and triumphs. She has faced significant health issues, including kidney dysplasia, which led to two kidney transplants—one from her father in 2012 and another from her brother in 2017. In her relationships, she has been open about her experiences, including a tumultuous four-year relationship with Matt Prokop, which ended in a restraining order due to abuse. Currently, she is happily engaged to Wells Adams, with whom she married on August 20, 2022, in a beautiful ceremony attended by her "Modern Family" co-stars.
