Shane Lee Yaw, known as Shane Dawson, was born on July 19, 1988, in Long Beach, California. Growing up in a low-income household with his single mother, Teresa, and two older brothers, Jacob and Jerid, Shane faced challenges, including bullying for his weight during his school years. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 2006 and developed an interest in video production by creating school project videos with friends. In adulthood, he successfully lost 150 pounds (68 kg), transforming his life.

Dawson launched his YouTube channel, "ShaneDawsonTV," on March 10, 2008, quickly gaining popularity with his comedic skits and characters. His early videos, including the viral hit "Fred is Dead!" garnered millions of views, establishing him as a prominent figure on the platform. Despite facing controversy, such as being fired from his job at Jenny Craig for inappropriate video content, he continued to thrive creatively. Personal Life

In his personal life, Dawson came out as bisexual in July 2015 and has been open about his struggles with body dysmorphic disorder. He began dating fellow YouTuber Ryland Adams in 2016, and the couple got engaged in March 2019. They married on January 3, 2023, in Colorado, where they purchased a farm. In July 2023, they announced they were expecting twins via surrogacy, celebrating the birth of their sons later that year.
