Formation

Slade, a British rock band, was formed in 1966 in Wolverhampton, England. The group originally emerged from a local band called the Vendors, which included drummer Don Powell and guitarist Dave Hill. After a series of lineup changes and a name change to The 'N Betweens, they eventually solidified their lineup with lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea. This quartet would become the iconic face of Slade, known for their energetic performances and catchy tunes.

Breakthrough

The band rose to prominence during the glam rock era of the early 1970s, achieving remarkable success with 17 consecutive top 20 hits in the UK, including six number ones. Their best-selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody," has sold over a million copies, and they are recognized as the most successful British group of the 1970s based on singles sales. Slade's albums, such as "Slayed?" and "Old, New, Borrowed and Blue," showcased their unique blend of hard rock and glam rock, solidifying their place in music history.

Despite disbanding in 1992, Slade's influence continues to resonate in the music world. They have inspired numerous artists, including Nirvana and the Sex Pistols, and their songs are celebrated for their audience participation and anthemic quality.
