Formation
The Offspring is an American punk rock band formed in Garden Grove, California, in 1984. Initially known as Manic Subsidal, the band was founded by guitarist/vocalist Bryan "Dexter" Holland and bassist Greg "K." Kriesel, who began playing music together in a garage. After a series of lineup changes, including the addition of drummer James Lilja and guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman, the band officially changed their name to The Offspring in 1986. They released their first single, "I'll Be Waiting," on their self-made Black Label record company.
Breakthrough
The Offspring gained significant attention in the 1990s with the release of their third album, "Smash," which became a massive success, going six times multi-platinum. This album, along with their subsequent releases, helped revive mainstream interest in punk rock. Over the years, the band has seen various lineup changes, with Holland and Wasserman remaining as the core members since the beginning. Other notable members include drummer Ron Welty, who played from 1987 until 2003, and current drummer Pete Parada, who joined in 2007.
