Formation

Thin Lizzy, an iconic Irish rock band, was formed in Dublin in 1969 by bass guitarist and lead vocalist Phil Lynott and drummer Brian Downey, who had met in school during the early 1960s. The original lineup also included guitarist Eric Bell and organist Eric Wrixon, although Wrixon departed shortly after formation. The band initially struggled to find their sound but began to gain traction in the early 1970s.

Breakthrough and Lineup Changes

The band's breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled debut album in 1971, followed by a series of successful albums including "Shades of a Blue Orphanage" and "Vagabonds of the Western World." In 1974, Thin Lizzy adopted a dual lead guitar format, featuring Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson, which became a defining characteristic of their sound. This era produced classic albums like "Jailbreak" and "Bad Reputation," solidifying their place in rock history. Over the years, the lineup saw several changes, with notable members including Gary Moore, who played guitar intermittently, and John Sykes, who joined in 1982.
