Early Life

Chou Tzu-yu, known mononymously as Tzuyu, was born on June 14, 1999, in the East District of Tainan, Taiwan. From a young age, she showed a passion for dance, which led her to train at a dance academy. In 2012, her talent was recognized when she was discovered by talent scouts at the Muse Performing Arts Workshop, prompting her move to South Korea in November of that year to pursue a career in music.

Career

Tzuyu's big break came in 2015 when she participated in the reality television show "Sixteen," produced by JYP Entertainment. She emerged as one of the nine successful contestants and debuted as a member of the girl group Twice in October 2015 with their first extended play, "The Story Begins." The lead single, "Like Ooh-Ahh," made history as the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million views on YouTube. Since then, Tzuyu has not only contributed to Twice's success but has also ventured into solo projects, including covers of popular songs and her upcoming solo debut EP, "abouTZU," set for release on September 6, 2024.

Personal Life

Tzuyu completed her middle school education in Taiwan and graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School in South Korea in February 2019. In a remarkable achievement, she announced in 2024 that she had earned a master's degree in applied psychology from Miguel de Cervantes European University, which she pursued online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tzuyu has also made headlines for her public image, being dubbed the "Light of Taiwan" and gaining significant influence, particularly after a controversial incident in 2015 that heightened her visibility in both Taiwan and South Korea.
