Udit Narayan

Early Life

Udit Narayan Jha was born on December 1, 1955, in Baisi, Bihar, into a Maithil Brahmin family. His father, Harekrishna Jha, was a Nepalese national, while his mother, Bhuvaneshwari Jha, was Indian. Despite his father's wishes for him to pursue a more conventional career, Udit was drawn to music from a young age. He began his musical journey as a staff singer for Radio Nepal and performed in hotels around Kathmandu. In 1978, he received a scholarship to study classical music in Mumbai, which marked the beginning of his serious pursuit of a music career.

Career

Udit's Bollywood career took off in 1980 when he recorded his first playback song in the film "Unees-Bees". His major breakthrough came in 1988 with the hit song "Papa Kehte Hain" from the film "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak", which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer. Over the years, he became a prominent figure in Indian cinema, known for his versatility across genres including Indian film music, ghazal, and classical music. He has won multiple Filmfare Awards, including a record for winning in three different decades. Notably, he also ventured into acting, with his most significant role in the Nepali film "Kusume Rumal".

Personal Life

Udit Narayan's personal life has been as colorful as his career. He was initially married to Ranjana Narayan in 1984, but later married Deepa Gahatraj in 1985, with whom he has a son, Aditya Narayan, who is also a playback singer. Despite facing challenges in his personal relationships, Udit has remained a beloved figure in the music industry, known for his contributions to Indian cinema and his ability to connect with audiences through his heartfelt performances.
