Early Life

Anastasia Kostyantynivna Prikhodko was born on April 21, 1987, in Kyiv, Ukraine, to a Russian father, Konstantin Rybalov, and a Ukrainian mother, Oksana Prikhodko. Raised primarily by her mother, a theatre critic, after her parents' separation, Anastasia also has an elder brother, Nazar, with whom she has collaborated musically. Interestingly, she has partial Japanese ancestry through her great-grandfather. At the age of 15, she auditioned for the popular Ukrainian girl group VIA Gra but was not selected. She later pursued her education in music at the R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music and the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, focusing on folk vocals.

Music Career

Prikhodko's music career began in 2005, but she gained significant recognition in 2007 after winning the Russian music competition Fabrika Zvyozd. Despite the controversy surrounding her comments during the show, she was signed by producer Konstantin Meladze and released several singles. Her breakthrough came with the 2008 hit "Bezotvetno," a duet that reached the top forty in Russia. Over the years, she has developed a unique sound that blends folk rock and pop music, characterized by her deep contralto voice. Initially performing in Russian, she transitioned to Ukrainian and swore off performing in Russian entirely by 2015.

Political Involvement

Anastasia Prikhodko became a prominent figure during the 2014 Euromaidan protests, advocating for Ukrainian forces and expressing her commitment to her country. Although she initially distanced herself from politics, she later registered with the Batkivshchyna party and ran for parliament in 2019, though she did not secure a seat. By 2021, she announced her withdrawal from politics, choosing to focus on activism instead, stating that politicians often act in their own interests rather than for the people.
