Early Life

Alison Maria Krauss was born in Decatur, Illinois, to Fred and Louise Krauss. Her father, a German immigrant, instilled a love for music in her from a young age, while her mother, an illustrator, played banjo and acoustic guitar. Growing up in Champaign, Illinois, Alison was exposed to a variety of musical influences, from folk music at home to rock and pop on the radio. She began studying classical violin at age five, although she was initially reluctant to practice. By the age of eight, she was competing in local music contests, showcasing her early talent.

Career

Krauss made her recording debut in 1986 and signed with Rounder Records in 1985. At just 16, she released her first solo album, "Too Late to Cry," in 1987, followed by her first group album with Union Station, "Two Highways," in 1989. Her career took off in the 1990s with the release of albums like "I've Got That Old Feeling," which earned her a Grammy Award.
