Dame Elaine Paige, born Elaine Jill Bickerstaff on March 5, 1948, in Barnet, Hertfordshire, was raised in a family with artistic inclinations; her mother was a milliner and a former singer, while her father was an amateur drummer. Initially aspiring to be a professional tennis player, Paige's passion for musical theatre ignited at the age of 14 after listening to the soundtrack of "West Side Story."
