Early Life

Floor Jansen, born in the Netherlands, is a prominent Dutch singer known for her powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence. As a child, she aspired to be a biologist, a dream that humorously came full circle when she played "The Biologist" in the Ayreon album "The Source." Jansen's musical journey began in earnest when she started studying at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, later attending the Conservatorium Tilburg to study musical theatre and opera. Her diverse musical background includes playing the guitar, piano, and flute, and she has completed several years of music studies.

Career

Jansen's career took off when she became the lead vocalist of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, a role that has solidified her status in the music industry. She has released several albums, including "Paragon" and "Eccentric," and has contributed to various singles such as "Into the Unknown" and "The Fight Goes On." Her vocal range is impressive, spanning over three octaves, allowing her to perform a wide variety of styles from classical to heavy metal. In addition to her singing career, she has also taught music through her course "Wanna be a Star?!" and has been recognized with awards like the Popprijs.

Personal Life

Outside of music, Jansen is a vegetarian and has a unique connection to nature, having species named after her, including a beetle and a brittle star. She has two daughters with her husband, Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer of Sabaton. In 2022, Jansen faced a significant health challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she announced her recovery later that year, demonstrating her resilience and strength. Despite her towering height of over six feet, she remains humble about her physical presence, often questioning the fascination surrounding it.
