Early Life

Jason Joel Desrouleaux, known professionally as Jason Derulo, was born on September 21, 1989, in Miramar, Florida, to Haitian parents. Growing up, he was immersed in music, with his first language being Haitian Creole. Derulo's mother pursued a law degree, while he began singing at a young age. He attended performing arts schools in Florida, where he honed his skills in music composition, writing his first song at just eight years old. His talent caught the attention of industry professionals during his teenage years, leading to early collaborations with artists like Pitbull and Birdman.

Career

Derulo's career took off when he began writing songs for various artists, including Diddy and Lil Wayne. After winning the grand prize on the 2006 season finale of Showtime at the Apollo, he was discovered by producer J. R. Rotem, who signed him to Beluga Heights Records. His debut single, "Whatcha Say," released on August 4, 2009, became a massive hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. This success was followed by a string of popular singles and albums, including "In My Head" and "Talk Dirty," solidifying his place in the pop and R&B genres. Personal Life

In his personal life, Derulo has had high-profile relationships, including a three-year romance with singer Jordin Sparks, which ended in 2014. He welcomed a son with his girlfriend Jena Frumes in May 2021, although they separated shortly after. Beyond music, Derulo is a co-owner of the Omaha Supernovas, a professional women's volleyball team, and is a supporter of the English football club Leicester City. Recently, he faced legal challenges when singer Emaza Gibson filed a lawsuit against him, alleging sexual harassment and breach of contract, which was later dismissed by a California judge.
