Early Life

Kevin Michael Costner was born on January 18, 1955, in Lynwood, California, and raised in Compton. He is the youngest of three boys in a family with a diverse heritage, including German, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and Cherokee ancestry. His mother, Sharon, worked as a welfare worker, while his father, William, was an electrician and utilities executive. Costner's early interests included sports, music, and poetry, and he was active in his church choir. He graduated from Villa Park High School in 1973 and earned a BA from California State University, Fullerton, in 1978, where he also became a member of the Delta Chi fraternity.

Career

Costner's career began in the early 1980s with minor roles in films and commercials.
