Kristin Chenoweth

Early Life

Kristin Dawn Chenoweth was born on July 24, 1968, in the United States and was adopted just five days later by Junie Smith Chenoweth and Jerry Morris Chenoweth, both chemical engineers from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Growing up, she showcased her talent by performing gospel songs in local churches, and at the age of 12, she made a memorable appearance at the Southern Baptist Convention national conference. Chenoweth graduated from Broken Arrow Senior High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in musical theatre and a master's degree in opera performance from Oklahoma City University, where she was also crowned Miss OCU.

Career

Chenoweth's career took off in the late 1990s when she made her Broadway debut in the musical "Steel Pier," earning a Theatre World Award. She gained widespread acclaim for her role as Sally Brown in the 1999 revival of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," which won her a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Her performance as Glinda in the original Broadway production of "Wicked" further solidified her status as a leading figure in musical theatre. In addition to her stage work, Chenoweth has appeared in various television roles, including Annabeth Schott in "The West Wing" and Olive Snook in "Pushing Daisies," for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2009.

Personal Life

Beyond her professional achievements, Chenoweth has been open about her personal struggles, including her battle with Ménière's disease, which affects her balance and hearing. She identifies as a liberal Christian and has been vocal about her support for LGBTQ+ rights, which has sometimes led to controversy within her fanbase. In 2009, she published a memoir titled "A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages," detailing her life experiences and career journey. Chenoweth has received numerous accolades, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, reflecting her significant impact on the arts.
