Paul Landers

Early Life

Paul Landers was born on December 9, 1964, in East Berlin, East Germany, to parents Anton and Erika Hiersche. His mother hails from Lyck in Masuria, now Ełk, Poland, while his father is from Böhmisch Kahn, now Velké Chvojno, Czech Republic. Both parents were displaced after World War II and met during their studies in Halle (Saale). Landers spent part of his childhood in Moscow, where he learned to speak some Russian.

Career

Landers began his musical journey in 1983 at the age of 18 when he joined the East German punk band Feeling B, founded by Aljoscha Rompe and Alexander Kriening. The band later included Christian "Flake" Lorenz, who contributed bass sounds using an organ. Throughout his career, Landers played in various bands, including Die Firma and Die Magdalene Keibel Combo. In the late 1980s, he met Till Lindemann and Richard Kruspe, which led to his involvement in the band First Arsch, releasing their only album, "Saddle Up," in 1992. In 1994, after winning the Berlin Senate Metrobeat Contest, Landers joined Lindemann and Kruspe in forming Rammstein, a band that would become iconic in the industrial metal and Neue Deutsche Härte genres. With Rammstein, he has released eight studio albums and three live albums.

Personal Life

In 1984, at the age of 20, Landers married his first wife, Nikki Landers, adopting her surname. He has two children, a son and a daughter, and has since become a well-respected figure in the music industry, known for his contributions to both punk and industrial metal music.
