Early Life

Byun Baek-hyun, known mononymously as Baekhyun, was born on May 6, 1992, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He grew up in a musical environment, influenced by the renowned South Korean singer Rain, and began training to be a singer at the young age of 11. During his school years, he attended Jungwon High School, where he showcased his talent as the lead singer of a band called Honsusangtae, winning a local music festival. Baekhyun also received piano lessons and trained in martial arts, achieving a dan 3 black belt in Hapkido. His journey in music took a significant turn when he was scouted by an SM Entertainment agent while preparing for entrance exams to the Seoul Institute of the Arts, leading him to join the company in 2011.

Career

Baekhyun officially debuted as a member of the popular boy band EXO on January 30, 2012, quickly becoming known for his powerful vocals. The group debuted in April 2012 and achieved immense success, solidifying Baekhyun's place in the K-pop industry. He expanded his career by hosting the SBS music show Inkigayo alongside fellow EXO member Suho and made his musical theatre debut in 2014 in the production of "Singin' in the Rain." Baekhyun's solo career took off with the release of his first solo song, "Beautiful," in 2015, which topped digital charts. He later became a member of the supergroup SuperM in 2019, further showcasing his versatility as an artist.

Personal Life

In addition to his musical endeavors, Baekhyun pursued higher education at Kyung Hee Cyber University, focusing on Culture and Arts. He enlisted in South Korea's mandatory military service on his birthday in 2021, serving as a public service worker due to a diagnosis of hypothyroidism. After his discharge on February 5, 2023, he reconnected with fans through a live broadcast on YouTube, marking his return to the public eye. Baekhyun continues to be a prominent figure in the music industry, known for his contributions to K-pop and contemporary R&B.
