Early Life

Park Chan-yeol, known mononymously as Chanyeol, was born on November 27, 1992, in Yeokchon-dong, Eunpyeong District, Seoul, South Korea. He grew up with an elder sister, Park Yoo-ra, who previously worked as an announcer. Chanyeol's passion for music ignited in elementary school after watching "School of Rock," leading him to play the drums and aspire to be a singer after hearing Yoo Young-jin's "Unconditional Kismet." Influenced by artists like Jason Mraz and Eminem, he initially focused on rock music before transitioning to rap. His journey in the music industry began when he won second place in the 2008 Smart Model Contest, which led to his training under SM Entertainment.

Career

Chanyeol debuted as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo on April 8, 2012, with their extended play "Mama." He was the last member introduced to the public and quickly became known for his baritone voice. Beyond his work with Exo, Chanyeol has made significant contributions as a songwriter and producer, co-writing tracks for the group and participating in various projects. He made his acting debut in the film "Salut d'Amour" in 2015 and starred in the web-drama "Exo Next Door." In 2024, he launched his solo career with the EP "Black Out," showcasing his versatility as an artist.

Personal Life

Chanyeol pursued higher education at Kyung Hee Cyber University, focusing on Culture and Arts, and later studied interior design at Inha University. He enlisted in the military on March 29, 2021, and completed his service on September 28, 2022. Throughout his career, Chanyeol has balanced his musical endeavors with acting and personal growth, establishing himself as a multifaceted entertainer in the K-pop industry.
