Formation

BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed on June 13, 2013, by Big Hit Entertainment. The group originally started as a hip hop ensemble around RM, an underground rapper, and included members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook. The formation of BTS was a strategic move by CEO Bang Si-hyuk, who aimed to create a group that could thrive in the declining physical album market by focusing on live performances and fan engagement. Unlike typical idol groups, BTS was designed to allow its members to express their individuality and creativity, which became a hallmark of their identity.
