Early Life

Kim Nam-joon, known professionally as RM, was born on September 12, 1994, in Sangdo-dong, Dongjak District, Seoul, South Korea. He grew up in the Ilsan District of Goyang, where his family moved when he was around four or five years old. RM has a younger sister and is part of the Gangneung Kim clan. His early exposure to English came from watching the American sitcom "Friends" with his mother. As a child, he developed a passion for writing poetry, which he shared online, and initially considered a literary career before turning to music. At the age of 11, he discovered hip-hop through Epik High's song "Fly," which inspired him to explore the genre further.

Career

RM's music career began in the underground Korean hip-hop scene, where he performed under the name Runch Randa. In 2010, he auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment and was accepted, joining the company without his parents' knowledge. He trained for three years alongside future BTS members Suga and J-Hope. RM debuted with BTS on June 13, 2013, and quickly established himself as a talented rapper and songwriter, contributing to many of the group's tracks. His solo work includes albums like "Indigo" and the EP "mono." He has also released several singles, showcasing his versatility as an artist.

Personal Life and Philanthropy

In addition to his music career, RM is known for his philanthropic efforts. He has made significant donations to various causes, including education for hearing-impaired students and support for veterans. RM underwent septoplasty in 2018 and has since lived in Hannam-dong, Seoul, with his bandmates. His influence extends beyond music, as he has been recognized for his contributions to Korean culture and has received awards for his work. RM continues to be a prominent figure in the music industry, known for his lyrical depth and leadership within BTS.
