Early Life

Jung Ho-seok, known professionally as J-Hope, was born on February 18, 1994, in Gwangju, South Korea. Growing up in a supportive family with an older sister, he developed a passion for dance at a young age. J-Hope trained for six years at the Gwangju Music Academy and was part of an underground dance team called Neuron. His dedication to dance earned him recognition, including first place in a national dance competition in 2008. This success sparked his interest in music, leading him to audition for a trainee position at Big Hit Entertainment.

Career

J-Hope made his official debut as a member of the globally renowned boy band BTS on June 13, 2013. As the third member to join, he quickly became known for his exceptional dance skills and vibrant personality. In 2018, he released his first solo mixtape, "Hope World," which received critical acclaim and peaked at number 38 on the US Billboard 200, marking a significant milestone for a Korean solo artist. His single "Chicken Noodle Soup," featuring Becky G, made him the first BTS member to enter the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist in 2019. J-Hope continued to evolve as an artist, releasing his debut studio album, "Jack in the Box," in 2022, and collaborating with J. Cole on the single "On the Street" in 2023.

Personal Life and Philanthropy

Beyond his music career, J-Hope is known for his philanthropic efforts. He has been a member of the "Green Noble Club" since 2018, contributing significant donations to Child Fund Korea. In 2019, he donated ₩100 million to support students at his former high school. J-Hope is also pursuing higher education, having enrolled in a Master of Business Administration program in Advertising and Media at Hanyang Cyber University. As of 2023, he is fulfilling his mandatory military service, having enlisted in April 2023, and is expected to be discharged in October 2024.
